Non-commercial to Commercial

Hello, I am a Canadian broadcaster looking into the American way of doing things. I was just wondering weather or not a non-commercial station can apply to flip over to a regular commercial station? And if so, what are the odds of the FCC approving the change? Thanks for your help, and if you know of any direct links to more on this information, please share them.

Thanks again,

It depends.

Unlike in Canada, the US has the lower 1/5 of the band (88.1-91.9) reserved strictly for non-comms. They can never, ever, ever, ever be commercial.

If you have a non-comm license in the commercial band it can be changed. A couple of stations in my old hometown of Richmond, VA did this...both were public radio outlets started on the commercial band and were eventually operated as commercial stations
